流出した社内文書および報道により、MetaのCEOであるMark Zuckerberg氏が、実世界のできごとを予想する独立型の予測市場アプリ「Arena」（社内コード名：Antwerp）の開発チームをひそかに立ち上げていたことが判明しました。ユーザーは、毎日配られる仮想通貨（プレイマネー）を利用して、二者択一の未来予測に賭けることができます。まずは従業員向けのプロトタイプテストから開始し、モバイル向けに公開予定とされています。

1. Llamaによる自律運用と前世代モデルの改善

Metaは2020年にも予測市場アプリ「Forecast」を公開していましたが、問題の手動キュレーションにかかる管理コストが高すぎたため、2022年にサービスを閉鎖していました。今回のArenaはこれを完全に再設計したものです。同社のLLM「Llama」をアプリに深く組み込んでおり、トレンドから自動で予測トピックを作成し、ユーザーへおすすめ市場を提示するほか、ニュースから真偽判定を行い「ほぼリアルタイム」で市場を自律的に決着させます。

実利を賭けるPolymarketやKalshiなどのリアルマネー予測市場は、賭博法や規制のグレーゾーンにあり、法的争いが絶えません。Metaがまずプレイマネーから開始するのは、規制機関からの罰則を避けつつ、連邦ライセンス取得までの時間を稼ぐための計算でもあります。とはいえ、世界で30億人を超えるユーザー基盤を持つMetaがこの分野へ参入したというリーク情報だけで、市場に大きな衝撃を与えました。

AIによる自律運用を取り入れたArenaの開発は、莫大な人力運営コストを伴わずに大規模予測プラットフォームを展開可能にすることを示唆しています。もし正式に一般公開されれば、SNS大手のMetaによる圧倒的なユーザーリーチとデータ蓄積力が、急成長する予測市場全体のプレイヤー勢力を塗り変えることになりそうです。
