Metaがインドに初のAIデータセンター開設へ

Metaは、インドで初となるAI（人工知能）対応データセンターを設立するため、現地のReliance Industries Limited（以下、Reliance）とリース契約を締結しました。この合意により、Metaはグジャラート州ジャムナガルに建設される168MW（メガワット）規模のAIデータセンターをリースし、将来的には容量をさらに拡張するオプションも保有します。これにより、Metaにとって最大かつ急速に成長しているインドのユーザーベースの近くでデータを処理できるようになり、サービスの接続速度と品質の向上が図られます。
1. 環境負荷を抑えた最新インフラと地理的優位性
今回リースされる施設は、再生可能エネルギーで駆動し、脱塩海水を用いた冷却システムを採用することで、環境負荷を最小限に抑えながら高度な演算処理をサポートします。Metaは施設を稼働させるための電力と水の全費用を負担します。建設地であるジャムナガルは、Relianceが世界最大規模のデータセンターキャンパスを開発している戦略的拠点であり、Metaが投資する世界最長クラスの海底ケーブルシステム「Project Waterworth」とも連携します。
2. 物理インフラへと拡大する両社の強固な提携
MetaとRelianceは長年提携関係にあります。2020年にはJio Platformsへ57億ドルの大規模出資を行い、小規模企業のデジタル化を支援してきました。また、MetaのオープンソースAIモデルをインドの企業や開発者に届ける共同事業も行っており、今回の物理インフラでの協業は、両社の提携関係をさらに強固にする新たな段階と位置付けられます。
3. インドにおけるクリーンエネルギーの確保
Metaは今回のインフラ拡張に伴い、インド国内のバリューチェーン全体における温室効果ガス排出への対策として、現地大手クリーンエネルギープロバイダーであるCleanMax（837MW）およびFourth Partner Energy（88MW）と提携し、合計で約1GWに近い太陽光・風力発電プロジェクトを契約しました。これにより、100%再生可能エネルギーでのグローバルな運用維持を目指します。
Relianceの会長であるムケシュ・アンバニ氏は、このデータセンター建設がインドをグローバルなAI革命の最前線へと導く転換点になると述べています。Metaがインド国内に専用のAIデータセンターを確保したことは、数億人の同国ユーザーに対するAIアシスタント機能（Meta AI）の提供を大幅に効率化し、現地での開発者エコシステムのさらなる発展を後押しするものと見られます。
